BRYANT OFFERS CONSUMERS SUPERB ENERGY SAVINGS AND EFFICIENCY
Homeowners Can Count on Bryant to Provide the Facts (and Products) on
New Government Standards in Residential Heating and Cooling
Consumers looking to purchase new air conditioners and heat pumps for
their homes will soon get more bang for their buck as the U.S.
Department of Energy raises its minimum energy efficiency standards.
Beginning January 23, 2006, manufacturers must produce equipment with a
minimum 13 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating. This change
will directly benefit the consumer by reducing energy requirements,
long-term high-energy costs and harmful air emissions and oil
dependency. Bryant welcomes and supports the new standard, and for more
than 10 years now, has produced a variety of products boasting a 13
SEER.
Much like a car’s fuel efficiency is gauged by miles-per-gallon (MPG),
the efficiency of air conditioners and heat pumps is measured in
SEER-the higher the SEER, the more efficient the product. The minimum
allowed SEER rating for new equipment is rising from a decade-long 10
SEER to 13 SEER, a 30 percent increase, and manufacturers will only be
able to produce equipment meeting these requirements. However,
homeowners do not need to replace existing units, though by doing so
they’ll be able to reap the cost-effective and environmental benefits
of this mandated change even sooner. “It is estimated that by 2030, the
change to 13 SEER will reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to
removing 3 million cars from our roadways,” said Halsey Cook, president
of Bryant’s North America Residential business unit.
One of the many Bryant products that meets this new government standard
is the Evolution™ System, one of the first HVAC systems to use a
single control to integrate and manage all six comfort functions
including temperature, humidity, air flow, ventilation, indoor air
quality (IAQ) and zoning. The basic system includes the Evolution
Control, a Bryant deluxe variable-speed furnace and an ultra-high
efficiency 13 SEER air conditioner.
SAVE BIG, WORRY LESS
Approximately 50 percent of all energy used in the typical home today
is spent on heating and cooling. With that in mind, the upgrade to 13
SEER will , on average, deliver nearly 23 percent energy savings to
homeowners when compared to the standard 10 SEER models. Of course,
monetary savings depends on the home’s current system, but homeowners
of a typical home may expect savings of around $6 per month, or an
annual savings of about $75.
EYE ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL FUTURE
Bryant’s loyal dealers are active members of the community and are
already educating consumers about the next regulatory change. In an
effort to protect the earth’s ozone layer R-22 refrigerants, most
commonly used in today’s air conditioners and heat pumps, will be
phased out in 2010. At that time, the industry will be required to
shift to a non-ozone-depleting refrigerant, such as chlorine-free
non-ozone depleting Puron® refrigerant. Bryant has used Puron
refrigerant since 1996, and has the broadest and strongest
non-ozone-depleting product line in the industry including a full line
of air conditioners, heat pumps and small package units.
By switching to high-efficiency equipment that uses Puron refrigerant
now, homeowners will protect themselves from the potentially rising
service costs associated with R-22 refrigerant.
Bryant’s Evolution System’s Two-Speed Puron Plus air conditioner is
just one of the many products in Bryant’s Puron refrigerant stable.
With a 16.5 SEER cooling efficiency, the unit offers unsurpassed
comfort, savings and quiet operation. Operating on low speed up to 80
percent of the time, the system is able to circulate cool air
throughout the home for longer periods of time. When the mercury rises
outside to sweltering heights, the device automatically shifts to high
speed to maintain your comfort indoors.
